our road experience with football thrown in for good measure!
It was finally Grand Final Day – Australian Rules Football.
Everything we did today revolved around when… “the game started”. Would the washing dry in time for…”when the game started”? Would we be back from our walk in time for “when the game started”, would lunch be ready for “when the game started”?
Imagine the horror when Ray realised that we were in a different time zone since leaving Victoria at the beginning of our road experience and the game would actually start 40 minutes earlier than he thought. Chris and Ray had been and booked a table at the local venue (pub) to watch the game on a TV bigger than the shoe box sized ones that we each had in our caravans and since we were convinced we would be celebrating a Hawthorn Hawks win, we decided to have lunch out.
We were one of the only 2 Hawks supporters in the whole building when we got there, the rest of the crowd barracking for anyone other than Victoria because we were actually situated in South Australia. As the afternoon progressed, Vicki and I discovered South Australian wine as Ray discovered the Hawks were losing.

At the end of the afternoon Caleb took off his Hawks top and declared himself an Essendon supporter (Ray nearly fainted) and Vicki and I left laughing and smiling. Some were not impressed. Back at camp we made a meal of chocolate and crackers and headed off to bed at 7:49 pm. We had a moment when my nearly full bucket of M&Ms fell on the floor. I had to rescue as many as I could! I will refrain from showing the photo – too embarrassing!
*Not sure that our early morning walk will run as scheduled tomorrow. Vicki was definitely looking a little askew when I left her.
