We sold up, packed up and decided to embark on the adventure of our lives. Follow us as we travel around Australia in a caravan.
We set of to explore the area today. A top of 32 degrees is forecast today so there was a mad scramble for 30+ suncream and shorts to wear. We have learnt to look past all the dust, it gets EVERYWHERE. No point wiping surfaces or sweeping because it just turns into red mud. Everyone’s feet are putrid, Vicki and I are adjusting well ( we think ) as we have stopped constantly complaining about it and progressed to just constantly commenting.
We headed to Wilpena Pound straight to the information hut to find out where best to explore. We had 3 kids keen to return to the camping area and use the pool so we didn’t want to be gone all day. We were also feeling the weather a bit and there was a walk that we were keen to do to a local waterfall which would take 2 hours.
We decided to do the drive tour which mapped out the best lookout spots and let the kids rest their legs. The views were nothing short of spectacular. Chris explained that everywhere you looked was overwhelming that after a while you became oblivious to it. I agree. Definitely a worthwhile part of the country to see if you ever get the chance.
The drive took us a bit (!) longer than we thought. It involved some 4WDing through dry river beds and even one which had a small amount of water in it. We were all excited to do our first “river crossing”.
I drank too much water and spent a very uncomfortable 40 minutes on the last leg of the trip needing a toilet that wasn’t available and not prepared to pull over and go to the “bush toilet”.
Another campfire and another bag of mallows later and we decided to call it a night. It was 7:40pm. Amazing how the time perspective changes when you are living the good life under the stars. On towards Port Augusta ( Harry insists it’s Madagascar – they sound similar) and he keeps saying ” we like to move it move it” like the song from the movie. He is just hilarious!)
