We sold up, packed up and decided to embark on the adventure of our lives. Follow us as we travel around Australia in a caravan.
I had a sleep in! It was one of those mornings when everything kind of melts around you while you drift in and out of sleep. It’s not hard to hear everything going on around you in a caravan, but I steadfastly ignored it all.
I surfaced at 9:00am and went to shower. Unfortunately the shower block cleaning time was from 9:00-10:30. I had no choice but to return to the van and my book.
I was ready to go at 11:00am. We really needed to do a major food shop. We collected Chris, Vicki and kids and headed into Alice Springs. (I found out that Vicki had spent the morning changing all the bedding, washing it, remaking beds, made dessert, swept and mopped the van as well as going for a jog. What a woman! I think she actually enjoys housework (or caravanwork).
Before we made it to the shops, Ray wanted to register for the Masters Games. We had arrived in time for him to compete in the discus throwing. It is on Tuesday at 4:00pm.
In town we did a shop and took a look around. We were so surprised that only the supermarkets were open. All the other stores don’t open on Sundays. We kept persevering looking for somewhere to eat lunch. The only eatery open was McDonalds. The kids were estactic. We sat and moped because it’s not the kind of food that us adults like.
We decided that we would go out for dinner since our lunch was dismal. Chris found a place that had a kids playground. We looked up the menu online and we were so excited that the selection was really varied. Something to suit each of us.
When we arrived we discovered that Sunday night is Roast Night. Nothing else is available. With disappointment we reluctantly each ordered the roast. $12.90. We were all pleasantly surprised. The meat (3 types) was tender and so tasty and the vegetable bar had a great variety.
There was an outdoor play area with a jumping pillow. Vicki and I joined the kids and had a great time. Then the kids took advantage of the open grass area and chased Aaron until they caught him.
Admittedly we haven’t seen much of Alice Springs yet but I think we will be here longer than we originally thought.
Cars to service, vans to fix, lots to see and do.
