We sold up, packed up and decided to embark on the adventure of our lives. Follow us as we travel around Australia in a caravan.
Mataranka Springs, Northern Territory, is paradise! The true definition of an oasis in the Australian Outback.
The campground is dusty and basic but 10 steps down a boardwalk there is an amazing natural thermal spring. Because the tourist season is over, we literally had the springs to ourselves. We spent a lovely afternoon swimming and relaxing and then enjoyed ‘Happy Hour at the homestead. (20% off drinks between 5 & 6 pm). We were visited by some gorgeous peacocks who were strutting their stuff for the female peacocks and then a friendly wallaby who followed us back to camp and shared dinner with us. It was hilarious to watch the peacocks chasing after their prospective females and the women just walking away. Caleb became very good at imitating their strut, he adopted a Mick Jagger type of movement.
Hannah kept us entertained with some keyboard music and we encouraged Caleb to ride his bike, which he had been refusing to do.
The wallaby came back to our caravan, was very friendly and distracted the kids from their dinner. We were so enthralled by how tame it seemed and it was soon joined by another wallaby.
We made plans to get up early for another dip in the springs before heading off. One more overnight stop before we get to explore Kakadu. This part of Australia is much discussed amongst travellers young and old and is a very popular stop.
