We sold up, packed up and decided to embark on the adventure of our lives. Follow us as we travel around Australia in a caravan.
We were up, up and on our way to Darwin. As much as Kakadu was spectacular, we were ready to leave. We had been inundated with ants all around our caravans and this became particularly infuriating. Who would have thought that such tiny creatures could create such angst! Especially for Vicki who kept cleaning out the same cupboard over and over again. When travelling you learn to be so careful with food and drink, making sure that leftovers and anything that you open are put into sealed plastic containers or “ziplock” bags. But, regardless of how careful you are, those ants seem to be a lot cleverer. The only surefire way to keep food away from ants is to eat it all!
Darwin is a mere 250km from Kakadu. Not so bad! When we arrived Chris went straight to a caravan parts business to get his hot water fixed. The customer service was lacking and the owner was a good example of how not to run a business, but, Chris got the right part and fitted it himself. Job done! They were relieved to have instant hot water for dishes again.
We settled into our “caravan resort”. A gorgeous park (Free Spirit) and checked out the 3 pools and Thai style bistro. We paid for 7 days but may end up staying longer. There are shops here! Such a difference to the surrounds of Kakadu! It’s like being in a different world!
We took a look at the local shopping centre, filled up on fresh fruit and veg and then went back to the caravans to cook up a storm for dinner.
It’s much more tropical here and the greenery is a lush relief for our eyes, reminding us of Queensland and Hawaii in parts. It’s suiting us just fine.
After tea, as the result of much nagging, we took the kids to the pool for a quick swim.
We are looking forward to exploring Darwin tomorrow.
BTW- check out the attached photo of a sign at the local shopping centre. Interesting!
