Is That The Sea We Smell? – Day 34

We sold up, packed up and decided to embark on the adventure of our lives. Follow us as we travel around Australia in a caravan.

Today was our first full day in Darwin. Chris and Vicki boxed up some excess belongings that they realised that they had brought all the way from Melbourne and that they didn’t actually need and so they ended up with 2 big removalist boxes to take to the post office to mail back home. We also had to pick up some mail that had been sent care of the post office (thanks Mum).  So we ventured into the big, wide city of Darwin. Our first impressions were that it was quite a tropical looking city set out well in neat rows, similar to the structure of Melbourne. The Harbour is nearby and the smell of the salt water is in the air. Such a vivid contrast to where we were just a short time ago!
We found the post office then decided to treat ourselves to lunch out. We ate at “Monsoon” and we were all more than happy with our meals. (Lunch special $10.90 for your choice of pizza, burger, wrap or salad). And the portions were huge. We all left swearing that we wouldn’t need dinner tonight. This suited me fine, I was more than happy to get the night off cooking, preparing and washing the dishes.
We took a 15 minute GPS directed drive to Casuarina where there was a shopping centre. We each had a variety of things we needed to stock up on and it was air conditioned!
After a good look around we ventured home again for more swimming and believe it or not, dinner.
After dinner I dug out the new hair clippers and lined up Caleb, Ray and Aaron for their haircuts. They each bravely tolerated me digging the clippers into their heads and luckily no blood was drawn.
Tomorrow more caravan repairs are on the agenda and some more pool relaxation. Gotta give one of the other pools a try so that we can compare them properly. It’s only fair!
