It’s Melbourne Cup Day. A holiday in Melbourne but not in Darwin. Not that it actually means much to us considering we are on a very long holiday.
Chris reported that he had had a very ordinary night. He wasn’t sure why, but he had been up through the wee hours of the morning vomiting. Not sure if it was something he ate or the heat, but he was violently ill and still not feeling the best.
Vicki and I were booked into the Endota Spa at the Darwin Casino for massages and a bit of waxing. We frocked up as best as we could with the limited options that we have and the boys dropped us off. They were heading to the Harbour to spend an hour or two at the wave pool with the kids. (Chris was sucking it up).
After a indulgent couple of hours we decided to “do lunch” at the casino but there were Melbourne Cup functions and luncheons and not the usual casual lunch options. We rang the men to come and pick us up (as previously arranged) and expected them within 15 minutes or so….
One hour and twenty minutes later they arrived. We were very unimpressed! Not girls to complain (too much) we used the waiting time to stand at the entrance of the casino and critique the fashions as they arrived. We must say that we know why Melbourne has its reputation as the fashion capital.
We saw a lot of skimpy Lycra tops worn as dresses, very few hats, and an abundance of tizzy cocktail dresses with little class. At one stage we wondered if we were being too harsh standing there in our sun dresses and sandals, until we viewed yet another fashionista walking IN with her too high heels in her hand and nothing on her feet. Oh Melbourne you would surely cringe!
By the time the boys arrived, we were worried that we would be asked to leave by security for loitering. Chris was feeling really ordinary so we abandoned the shopping plans we had made and headed home for a sandwich.
Chris went to bed and straight to sleep. We took the kids to the pool.
Not the most exciting Melbourne Cup holiday I have ever had but the massage and couple of hours alone were absolute GOLD!
I’m planning another one when we reach Perth. Endota Spas never fail to impress with their service and relaxing atmosphere!
