A very hot night in our van (not Chris & Vicki’s though as they now had power for air conditioning) was broken by a tropical storm at 4:15am. I jumped up and literally “battened down the hatches”. We were happy to cop a little wetness inside to relieve the heat but there was enough water falling to create a river for us to float away on.
By daylight it was hot, steamy and wet. The kids slept in ( for once) not waking us up either and we only had 45 minutes until Chris and Vicki were due to arrive for a swim at the falls before we hit the road. We all swung into action, the kids did breakfast, I prepared morning tea and lunches and Ray and Az started packing up the campsite. In a flurry of bodies and wet belongings I was suddenly transported back to school mornings and the rush to get everything done before jumping in the car to begin a busy teaching day! I had a realistic and instant appreciation for our amazing adventure that we were currently enjoying, travelling around Australian in a caravan and being able to enjoy the raw stunning surrounds of our country.
A beautifully refreshing swim was enjoyed by us all. Even Harry made it to the waterfall using the boogie board. We can all say we swam to and played under a waterfall. It was such an experience.
We ventured back to the van, got the last bits packed up and then we were all on the road again heading back towards Katherine and the road to Western Australia.
On the drive we needed to pull over to make way for a wide load travelling the other way. They take up nearly all of the road so it’s much safer to stop completely.
We were all exhausted after a long day on the road. The kids were becoming testing in that charming way that kids cooped up in a car tend to have and we were all in need of a good sleep.
