‘Broome Time’ Bites Us All- Day 56

A very long sleep in this morning was very welcome. We made plans to travel overnight to Cape Leveque on Friday night and stay in the luxury beach tents that you can rent there. 5 people ( not counting kids) take a while to reach a consensus on whether or not we should do something, and if we should, which place, what time and which options otherwise should we take. So, decision made, we ventured out into Broome.
We had a puncture fixed yesterday only to find out that the tyre was flat again this morning. We ventured back to Beaurepairs to discover that we had actually blown the tyre and needed a completely new one. We looked around the town, had lunch and then wandered through the pearl shops. Broome was settled based on its ability to farm pearls and Broome pearls are known for their quality and exquisite beauty. I found the most unbelievable ring which I fell in love with. Ray said I could have it but we would have to cut our trip short. It was $10,500. Typically, I left it in the shop. (My husband knows me too well which is why he said I could have it – he knew I would say no).
We were invited to a BBQ at Nick and Rosie’s house (Richard’s friends) so we gathered a few groceries and set off. Nick and Rosie and their 4 kids are originally from Melbourne. They set of on a trip around Australia and stopped in Broome. They both have jobs, their kids are in school and they are loving living by “Broome Time”. We spent a very enjoyable evening being entertained and really well fed. Rosie is a sensational cook and can do amazing things with Mangoes which are plentiful up here. We have seen them for $1.50 per kilo. They taste different than at home and are a regular part of the menu at restaurants and cafes. Delicious. Rosie made us mango pops for dessert. The cheeks of mangoes, frozen, dipped in dark chocolate, drizzled with white chocolate and finished with nuts. Absolutely sensational!
A late night for all ( especially since it was a school and work night for some of us ) but thoroughly enjoyable. We have made plans to catch up again before we leave.
