Mooning Around Carnarvon-Day 74

All this talking about fishing gave me a craving. We passed the local fish and chip shop and decided to buy lunch and head to the pier to eat them. The snapper I had was the most delicious fish I ever remember having eaten (excluding distant memories of fish Ray has caught and cooked previously). The jetty here in Carnarvon is 1.6km long. It has a small train and carriages that you can go on to journey to the end. We headed there but being a Sunday the train wasn’t operating so we walked it instead. I would love to say that we enjoyed the scenery while we walked but the moment you lifted your eyes from your feet, you invariably stumbled over some rotting wood or corroding railway line. There was railing on one side of the pier, but not on the other. Being aware of your feet certainly kept you dry.
Carnarvon is also known for housing the first satellite dish in Australia which assisted the Americans with the Apollo moon landing. We visited the museum which housed some interesting memorabilia about space travel through the ages. Caleb enjoyed this as he did a poster project on the moon landing earlier in the year and was familiar with some of the information. I enjoyed reliving my childhood and sat cross legged on the floor watching the “box”. I remember mum polishing our TV like this one with Mr Sheen and we used to run our fingers through the shine on the veneer and then blame each other when mum noticed. I didn’t watch the moon landing (I wasn’t born) but I clearly remember watching Charles and Diana’s wedding on our TV like this one. TVs were such a pice of furniture in those days. But I digress..
Ray and Aaron decided to try fishing again and left Caleb and I at the van to relax. They returned well after dark reporting that they did catch fish but none big enough to keep. I’m tempted to have a go myself but now it’s got to the point that I think it would be dangerous to egos if I did indeed catch a fish big enough to feed us. That would be hazardous to our peaceful family life!
