Kalbarri’s Window Provides a Picture -Day 79

We went off to explore the Kalbarri National Park today. It is a very reasonable 35km drive from Kalbarri. The road is badly corrugated so we deflated the tyres a tad for a more comfortable ride. We passed quite a few 2WDs and we wondered how their cars were holding up and also the people inside the cars as you do get a bit of a jolt around which can be rather unsettling on the tummy (kids) and hips (older people).
The National Park is full of short walks and amazing views. We walked to Nature’s Window, a natural window formation in the rock. This is one of the most universally common photos taken so you may have to be patient and wait your turn to sit in the window and get the perfect shot.

It is so unbelievable that there are absolutely no fences, boundaries or bollards to stop you from falling over cliffs with sheer drops. There are warning signs of cliff collapses, but that’s about it. We saw a few nervous parents holding tight to their kids hands. I was tempted to hold tight to Ray – the eternal rule breaker in our family!
A bit further into the park we went on a 3 km walk down into the gorge. Caleb led the way and even though some of the going was pretty tough, he persevered and gave us a running commentary, Bear Grylls style. The scenery was truly magnificent. I recommend you doing this walk even if you need to rest on the way down and up.
In the afternoon we returned to the caravan park, resting up after our walk and Caleb swam in the refreshing pool. We aim to arrive in Geraldton tomorrow.
