“Sir, Lancelin has a few Surprises!”-Day 83

We left Geraldton this morning in our “Rudolph Mobile” heading to Cevantes to stay the night. Our last night before hitting Perth. Cervantes is 14km from the Nambung National Park which houses the mysterious Pinnacles.
The Pinnacles rise from the sand dunes and are thousands of limestone pillars up to four meters tall. They are contained within a 5 km radius part of the National Park and are quite an amazing sight to see.
We decided to drive to the Pinnacles, have lunch then decide where to stay. As we took the 1.2km walk around the Pinnacles we realised it was going to rain. This excited us as its been a while since we were actually within the proximity of any kind of water falling from the sky. (Darwin). The sky looked ominous and it did rain, but it wasn’t enough to wash the van and barely wet our clothes. As we head into Perth and their unseasonably wet month that we have heard is upon us, I’m sure we will see more rain soon enough.
We decided to drive on towards Perth, rather than go back to Cervantes, and we pulled into a little tourist town called Lancelin. Caleb did a playground tour, as we drove from one to the other around the town. One was in the local Primary School so I had a little peer in the classroom windows. Their school term finished today. I had a nostalgic moment thinking about my Year 6 students and their graduation this evening.
Lancelin is 130km from Perth. It is probably the worst caravan park for facilities and the condition of them we have been in, but with the friendliest people. The amenities are so bad that they should pay us to shower in them. There is no water pressure so hair washing is practically pointless. The shower doors are half a door so that only your important private parts are actually covered – unless you are unusually tall or short. We giggled our way through our showers. But, over the sand dune at the back of the park is an amazing beach where we watched a beautiful sunset. This was worth the inconveniences and condition of the park.
We arrive in Perth tomorrow and we are all very excited to be seeing Tinie (Ray’s sister). She usually visits the family in Melbourne so it’s really nice to be able to be on her side of the country for a change. She has arranged a full calendar of events for us and we can’t wait. We also meet up again with Chris and Vicki tomorrow. Caleb is so excited that its 10:00pm now and he just can’t sleep! He said his excitement bubbles are in his throat keeping him awake. Cute!
