Serpentine Falls Packs It In.-Day 97

New Years Day. It promised to be a tad cooler and we were more than happy to see the overcast sky. The forecast was for 33 degrees which was relatively cool compared with the weather we had endured over the last week.
We prepared a picnic lunch and headed to Serpentine Falls in the Serpentine National Park. We had heard so many positive things about this park and had put it high on our list of things to do. We were conscious that as the park was close to Perth and it was a public holiday, it would probably be busy. We got there and we were right. There were more people than we have come across to date, in National Parks, but it still wasn’t too packed to be able to enjoy it. There was plenty of room for everyone. After a refreshing swim and a bit of a sit and people watch, we took a drive to Jarrahdale, home of a jarrah forest and the Serpentine Dam. This major catchment area for Perth looked like it was in need of a good downpour. We stopped for our picnic and a look see at the lookout. Ray had a go at reliving his youth by trying to do “donuts” in the carpark ( we were alone). He said it wasn’t possible in the 2.5 tonne land cruiser but Aaron suspected that he had forgotten how to do them. Hmmm…
It threatened to rain and the breeze actually had some cooler gusts in it. What a welcome relief!
We love Perth but at least in Melbourne you know if its hot one day it’s pretty much guaranteed to rain the next. Perth is hot all day and night. The nightly breeze makes things just bearable.
The cooler weather gave us the taste for vegetables for dinner. We stopped in at Woolies and enjoyed vegetables with our dinner for the first time in a while. They made such a nice change from the crispy fresh salad we have been eating since leaving home.
