Frogs and Friends; A Day To Celebrate-Day 117

\

I had an interesting shower this morning. I was enjoying a spacious ensuite room with enough room to do a helicopter with my towel, when something decided to join me. I noticed that by my right foot there was a frog. I’m happy to share, but I like to be asked and this little fellow scared me to bits! I did the only thing I could think of and I screamed! Luckily, Ray was lurking outside the door and as we were the only ones in the park, I hadn’t locked the door. He rushed in and the frog rushed out. I probably scared him more than he scared me. Ray kept guard while I finished showering and when we opened the door again, there he was on the mat outside the door (the frog not Ray), waiting patiently for his turn. I’m proud to say that after nearly 4 months on the road it was my first scream brought on by wildlife.
I was very encouraged to see that the owner of the park had painted the toilet door a lovely shade of my new favourite colour- yellow. Nice!
Along the way we came across the Bibbulmun Track. This track is for walking and it runs from Albany to Perth. It is very popular with overseas visitors and we have heard that some people walk part of it at one time and then return the following year to continue, and so on until they have done the whole route. Good on them, but knowing how far the trek is, I will drive, thanks very much!
We headed for a campground in the Leewin Naturaliste National Park on the coast near Margaret River. Amazingly Karen and Roy, high school friends of mine from Melbourne ( I’ve known Karen since Year 7) just happen to be holidaying in the area. They flew into Perth a couple of days ago and Karen contacted me. She is an avid follower of this blog so she knew exactly where we were.
They managed to secure some accommodation in Margaret River and so we arranged to meet up.
After finding our campsite, we headed straight to Margaret River. We knew where we were going as we had been there before with Judy and Emma. I was so excited, overexcited as Ray noted. It wasnt long before we had caught up over a drink which lasted 3 hours! We decided that they should come back to our van for a BBQ.
We had a superb evening catching up, weren’t too bothered by mozzies or midgies and its hard to express how good it was seeing our dear friends in an environment that is so out of our ordinary. At home, we most often catch up at a restaurant being waited on and paying for the privilege. Tonight it was just us, good company to enjoy, the dirt and darkness. Since being “on the road” the things that really matter in life have really been highlighted to us. This evening will become a precious memory; meeting up with our dear friends on the other side of the country. What a night!
