Happy Australia Day! I woke early and decided to have a shower before I had to queue up for one. This park is quite busy due to the long weekend and there are only 3 toilets and 3 showers to share. Some women treat the amenities as a gathering place and chat for what seems like hours, so it is always a busy junction. I don’t know how they feel comfortable standing around chatting and listening to the unique noises coming from the toilet cubicles, but each to their own.
Ray and I went to town to check out the Farmers Market. Az and Caleb didn’t want to come so we took advantage of the opportunity to hold hands without peanut gallery comments. It won’t be long before its just the three of us and any time alone will be just about non-existent. Time to take advantage!
The market wasn’t very exciting but Ray did buy some peaches freshly picked off the tree this morning. He was impressed with the taste and colour of the flesh. It’s absolutely amazing to be able to enjoy fruit this fresh. It really does taste different to the fruit bought in a supermarket which it purchased a season ahead and held in cold storage. Often it doesn’t have the taste of the fruit at all.
Market done and no need to return to the van in a rush, we stopped off at “Dome” for a coffee. What luxury it was sitting on the verandah reading the paper and drinking our coffee. Uninterrupted, blissful adult time, no need for anything else just …us!
We had lunch when we returned to the van and then headed to Little Beach. This beach has made the Top 5 of Australia’s best beaches. We could see why. White powdery sand and turquoise water.
Ray and Caleb went exploring along the foreshore while much to Aaron’s disgust I got changed into my bathers on the beach. (You’ve got to be quick but it can be done without revealing anything.)
The water was still too cold to swim but soaking up the sun was lovely.
Not far along the coast we took a look at Nanaup. A popular spot for driving on the beach, which we did. I drew the line at driving through the inlet’s water, but I half suspect that Ray only suggested it to see my reaction. I kept the hysteria out of my voice and in my now rusty “teacher tone”, I said “No thankyou!”
We stumbled upon another inlet called Emu Point. It was a pumping place with a small marina, cafe, playground, and shady grassed foreshore. Cars lined the street and we were surprised that we hadn’t heard about this place before.
Back to the van for an Australia Day dinner of lamb on the barbie, expertly cooked by Ray. The absolute must have when in Australia for Australia Day. Lovely!
