A short 102km drive out to Wave Rock at Hyden this morning. We arrived at the caravan park which is so conveniently located right next door. We set up and whiled away the early afternoon under the awning chatting about all and sundry. We decided at about 3:00pm that we should take a look at Wave Rock. No entrance fee for us because ours was included in our camping fees. The rock is made from granite, formed through erosion by water over millions of years. It is 15 meters high and 10 meters long. We went for a walk over the top of it, enjoying such beautiful views of the areas around.
We enjoyed taking photos of us “surfing” the rock and seeing how far up the waves we could run without falling down. Not quite as soft a landing as if we were playing in the ocean, but lots of fun nonetheless. Definitely a place to wander about for hours and marvel at the majestic force of nature. Another destination for your ever increasing list of must dos in and around Australia.
It is such a tourist attraction which you’ve probably heard about as many others obviously had as we watched more and more people pull in all afternoon.
After our walk we decided to take advantage of the pool. We haven’t had one in a park for a while so with a hot 36 degrees it was most enticing. I managed to go in to my belly button before retreating to the sun lounger. Still a bit cold for me. We have a day or so to spare so it is likely that we might stay another night just to relax by the pool.
