It was overcast when we woke so our plans of spending the day lazing on the beach were thwarted. We climbed to the lookout again which was the only place that we could get phone reception, to post yesterday’s blog and return some phone calls.
Caleb’s schooling is finally sorted, due to our extenuating circumstances, they have decided to overlook my honesty and work with us. Phew!
Our work done and the day heating up, we had lunch and then took a walk along the beach. Ray cooked his catch from yesterday, making comments about the male pride and natural instincts involved in hunting, preparing and eating the catch. I had problems disassociating the poor little creatures I saw swinging from his fishing rod yesterday and the fillets in the pan, so I declined as politely as I could without injuring his hunters pride. Ray declared it the best white flathead that he had ever eaten.
The temperature was supposed to be 38 degrees, but as we walked it rained on us, making it very pleasant indeed
Caleb rode his bike on ahead, the sand being hard enough to provide him with a great track to enjoy.
I reminded Ray of the day many years ago (nearly 11) when he asked me if I could choose anywhere in the world to get married, where would it be? I replied that it would be Paris of course, but Esperance was a close second if we couldn’t manage Paris. I had been here when I was in my 20’s and it had made quite an impression. Holding hands and wandering along the magnificent coastline, we decided that if we momentarily forgot the 10 year old ahead of us on the bike, we could actually be on our second honeymoon. So, now we’ve had both Paris and Esperance. All my dreams come true…well….
We stopped and played in the sand for a while before turning back. We had walked about 4km of the 22km beach and there was only one way to get back. Caleb had had enough riding so I had a turn, riding through the water at Caleb and Ray’s suggestion, not realizing that it would spin water and sand up the back of me. Of course they thought it was hilarious!
A quiet night reading, then bed. Tomorrow is our last day here then we head across the Nullabor. We need to replenish food and water tomorrow so a trip into Esperance is necessary. More beach driving to get there, white knuckles for sure!
