Ray The Rascal-Day 149

Yep. Another ride into town, another white knuckle experience. Who can blame me when a bucketload of water entered through my side window while we were driving along. Ray insisted it was accidental, I mentioned that it meant he didn’t actually have control of the car. The tide was in which didn’t leave much sand that wasn’t water affected. Even Caleb was asking Ray to keep his eye on things to ensure we didn’t get bogged again. He then proceeded to remind Ray about THAT incident in great detail. (See Denham Swallows The Car – Day 77)
We shopped, then we needed to clean the salt and sand off the car. Caleb and I stayed in the car, half from fear of more water being “accidentally” thrown at us and the other half because Ray had caused the mess, now it was his responsibility to clean it up!
After cleaning the car he asked if we should go back to camp along the beach again, I think you can imagine our responses!
Before heading back, we went in search of the Pink Lake. As we came over the hill into Esperance last week, we could see the lake in the distance and it was brilliant pink. Today we were not so lucky. The lake was simply a wide open bog. Poor Ray, he was really looking forward to seeing it up close. Ray consoled himself with a sausage in bread from Bunnings Warehouse, always guaranteed to make him feel better!
Once we were back at camp and the groceries were unpacked, Caleb acted as our messenger to arrange afternoon drinks with Peter and Chris who were camped next to us. We spent an enjoyable hour exchanging life stories then we all headed to the beach to watch the sunset. Peter and Chris have lived a truly amazing life, lived in numerous places, and are such genuine people. Once again we reflected on how we have had some absolutely lovely people pass through our lives on this journey. We hope to one day run into them again.
