Ade-laide Back Tour -Day 160

By the time we got our acts into gear it was lunchtime. This is something that I adore about our travelling life. There is no pressure to get up and move. Unless of course we have a lot of kilometres to cover in a day then we need to be on the road nice and early in order to get to our next destination. Otherwise we can take it easy, move at our own pace and enjoy the relaxed lifestyle that isn’t the rat race.

We ate, then headed into Adelaide for a guided tour by Ray who had lived here quite a number of years previously. He did a great job of remembering the streets and showed us where he lived, worked and even where he parked his car. We reacted as enthusiastically as we could, asking questions and nodding as all good tourists should. He spoke to the people in the current butcher shop where he once worked. Not sure if they were as thrilled about him reminiscing as he was though. Caleb and I moved outside to escape the fish smell of the store next door and wait out the time which was sure to be quite a while. (It was a little over an hour so we thought we had escaped that one pretty easily.)
Looking around and exploring Adelaide I realised that I am drawn to the architecture of the buildings in Adelaide, they have such character and there is a church just about on every corner. No wonder it is called the “City of Churches”
We found a huge bookshop having a sale and Caleb took off to find his favourite books-Star Wars. Seeing him sitting down surrounded by books was a great photo opportunity and so unlike the kid we left home with who wouldn’t even look at a book without a serious talking to. (Heartbreaking for me as a teacher!) We’ve been really encouraged by his recent interest in books.
Ray drove us to West Lakes for a quick look around. It has changed a lot since he was here last.
We are finding Adelaide a lot like Melbourne, just a little bit more laid back. The weather is good and the city is in the middle of the Fringe Festival at the moment, so there are plenty of happy, smiling people around.
