Something for Everyone in Glenelg-Day 163

Glenelg looked like a nice place to visit so we decided to head there today. Being a long weekend, we knew that wherever we went, it would be busy.
Before we left, I gave Caleb a makeshift haircut to get rid of the hairs growing over his ears and it occurred to me just how his features are growing and changing. He’s not a little kid anymore!
When we arrived at Glenelg, Ray led us straight to a building with a huge sign “The Beachouse”. He had obviously read about it because when we entered the building we were transported to a kid’s idea of heaven. (Even a big kid’s).
It had 2 levels of arcade games, dodgem cars, water slides and rafts, even mini boats that you could manouver around the water and squirt water from pistols attached.
Caleb decided to play the arcade games even though Ray had sneakily brought Caleb’s bathers with us. I think all the sounds and flashing lights convinced him. We purchased a game card and loaded it with $20. Caleb had a great time running from one machine to the next, swiping his card and collecting the tickets that spat out after each turn. I wouldn’t let him play any shooting games and I kept giving him the perfect reason which I use a lot and for a variety of things, ” I’m your Mum, it’s my job!”
After the fun we wandered onto the foreshore area and had some lunch. Caleb had his first ever frozen coke which he was really impressed with, I found a great sushi bar and Ray found skinless hotdogs. Happiness all around.
We walked along the jetty noticing what a great family beach it was and that there were not as many people as we thought there would be out and about on this beautiful day. Along the jetty kids were jumping into the water and daring each other to climb higher and higher. One boy climbed about 6 metres onto the top of a square pole, which was not there for this reason. The effort he took getting there was amazing and we admired his ability to balance. His precarious climb finished with a dive into the water below. When the next boy started to try to do the same thing, we saw potential disaster and decided to leave them to it.
How wonderful it was that Harbourtown was nearby. We decided to swing by for a couple of hours before it closed. One of the tourist books had mentioned that there was a special card to give tourists extra discounts and lots of other incentives to attract the tourist dollar. We signed up for our card and discovered that there was a lounge available with refreshments, a TV to watch, parcel minding and tourist information and brochures. What service! It would have been perfect for the boys had I been let loose for a whole day of bargain hunting, as it was I had just 2 hours.
Since we’ve been travelling, my shopping habits have changed dramatically. Instead of wandering in and out of just about every store, now there are many that I skip entirely with the knowledge that heels, office attire and jackets have no place in my travel wardrobe. It actually makes shopping an entirely new experience. I bought a beach bag (that can double as a handbag), 2xt-shirts and a new pair of sandals and managed to walk through every store of the 150 there that may have held something I could utilise.
A little bit more people watching over a coffee and then it was home for dinner. A splendid way to spend the day!
