We woke, we did little and so the pattern of the day was set. So we are on holidays, now we are really acting like it. Mildura is just 6 hours from Melbourne and it feels quite strange knowing that we are so close and yet so far away. Finally, we are travelling in the same time zone as home. For the first time in close to 6 months.
Caleb fed the ducks and bird life half a loaf of bread. It was quite amusing watching him run away from the swans who were getting too close for his liking. Unfortunately, he still had bread in his hands which the birds wanted. He started to freak out a little which was funny. (We tried not to show him we were laughing at him running in circles).
We ventured out after lunch and a load of washing, taking a look around the town. We have been really surprised at the low cost of housing here. We just can’t work out why family homes are so affordable. It’s such a popular tourist area with 16 caravan parks so the population must soar during holiday times. We like what we see so far and we are seriously scratching our heads about it. Maybe being a tourist destination for permanent residents isn’t all you would think it’s cracked up to be.
We found a supermarket and did a spot of shopping. Caleb asked to buy a book from the bookshop that he spotted and he knows that’s a question he will always get a “yes” to. I also managed to find a birthday book to mark down all the friends and family birthdays because I have missed so many of them this year. Now I just have to fill it in with the dates. As it was late, there wasn’t much time for anything else. We really must get moving a lot earlier in the mornings.
Home for a quick swim, but it was too late for wine o’clock. We found that the population of this caravan park carry their chairs to the edge of the river from about 4pm onwards, wine and nibbles in hand. It is a great spot to watch the paddle steamers go by. Well, there’s always tomorrow for a bit of wine o’clock indulgence.
