See Ya Mildura – Day 171

We left Mildura this morning heading for Hay. We feel a little dizzy having crossed from New South Wales to Victoria and back again about 19 times since we have been here. Hay is well and truly in New South Wales. Thank goodness New South Wales and Victoria are on the same timeline otherwise we could have been really confused!
Caleb is so very happy with his new sun visor to keep the sun off his book so that he can enjoy reading in the car. No more excuses…err…reasons why he can’t catch up on his reading schedule. It sure beats a towel hanging and flapping in the wind annoying us all with the incessant noise.

The trip was uneventful apart from some close calls with the toilet stops. When Caleb has to go, he has to go NOW and he thinks that using the “bush toilet” is disgusting.
We set up at the Showgrounds in Hay and decided to walk into town. We haven’t done much exercise lately and we are all in need of fresh air and limb stretching.

The streets of Hay were quiet and being a Sunday we didn’t expect much different. The drinking fountain was quite ornate and the local swimming pool had free admission and was well maintained. As it was only about 23 degrees, none of us felt much like getting wet. We tried to get a coffee at the “open 7 days” cafe but it was closed. Then we tried to go to the “open every day” station museum, but it was closed too.

After our exploration we returned to the van. Caleb gave Ray a lecture on giving up smoking and pointed out all the gruesome things that are likely to happen to him. He gave Caleb the same bored expression that I get during my lectures. The night was cold enough to need to turn the heater on in the caravan! I’m not liking this much at all. I think it’s time to head North, and quick!
