We left Batemans Bay this morning but not before checking out the local park. Caleb discovered another flying fox so we all took turns. Being a Saturday, the park was well populated with kids but I think we have created a rod for our own backs by playing with Caleb ourselves at parks. Today he wouldn’t play with the other kids, just wanting us to join in with him. Perhaps our fun levels are higher than other kids his age!
We pulled into Jervis Bay for lunch as Ray had heard so much about it. It’s in a national park so it was $11 entry. We went to the beach for a look and it was really beautiful. All turquoise and white. Caleb scored a piggyback across the inlet because he was wearing runners. We could have stayed here a few days but we continued on, ever conscious about the impending holidays and the increasing traffic on the roads and the need to get settled into our accommodation. We will be back to explore this area again in much more detail.
We have really enjoyed staying at town Showgrounds while travelling. They have proven to be really good value for money and offer lush green grass as well as basic but well maintained amenities. We are still excited by parking on grass and walking around in bare feet. After so many months with the red dust of the outback, pulling up on grass is still a cheap thrill. (We travellers are so easily pleased!)
At $11 per adult per night we got power, water, showers, toilets and beautiful grass. The host said, ” Just pull up wherever you like and no charge for the kid!” Another freebie scored by Caleb.
Ray busied himself fixing Caleb’s flat tyre only to find out later that the new tube he put in also had a hole in it. He wasn’t impressed because he had some difficulties putting the gears back on properly and the whole exercise took him more than an hour.
The local footy teams (rugby) were playing a Saturday night game right next door on the oval so Ray and Caleb pulled up a chair to watch and try and work out the rules. They decided to have a kick of the footy on the oval after the game. Real AFL footy that is!
