We woke to a beautiful morning, the sun was shining and the dew was drying on the grass.
We thought we would head for the tourist information centre in Nowra which was 14 km away. Information centres are amazing places full of local information and generally knowledgeable people.
We got some great brochures and headed to the shops to buy (another) new tube for Caleb’s bike and some groceries. We were more than pleased to see Aldi and got some necessities. It’s great having the Waeco fridge/freezer permanently sitting in the back of the car. We loaded the cold groceries into it and headed up to Kangaroo Valley.
As we travelled up Mount Barrengarry we were amazed at how much the scenery resembled our beautiful Dandenong Ranges, East of Melbourne. We could have been driving through Olinda or Sassafras. Quaint, almost English looking houses, along with lush green overhanging foliage created shaded laneways to drive down and we were in bliss. We were fortunate that the weather was so lovely. Fingers of sunlight were shining on us as we drove higher and higher to the top of the mountain. The view was magnificent.
Another 26 km took us to Fitzroy Falls. A stunning waterfall and lookout.
We returned to Berry where we were set up at the Showgrounds via a tourist road which was hair pin turn after hair pin turn. It was amazing. We discussed whether it was my English background or simply because I’m reminded of the Dandenongs that I was so taken with this area. It is just so appealing and it wouldn’t take much convincing to make me live here.
