I had the scare of my life this morning. I got up for a walk at about 7am. As soon as I hit the road outside the caravan park, I realised I had entered a world I haven’t been to for 6 months. “The Rat Race”.
Between negotiating a wet grassy track in lieu of a footpath and the scary speed and frequency of the hurrying traffic, I found myself trying to cross a very busy two lane roundabout. I was a little concerned for my safety, but even more concerned that I was actually noticing the people on their way to work. Determination (or was I mistaking it for something else) etched on their faces and realised that it actually used to be me. How fortunate I am to be out of “the race”, to be able to take a sidestep view of life the way I was living it and be able to critically evaluate it.
We spent today shopping for food. Tomorrow a long time family friend of the Siegersma family arrives in Sydney to stay with us for 2 nights. I had to make sure I had all the necessary food for the long weekend so that we didn’t have to subject her to food shopping when we are going to be pushed for enough time to show her around as it is. We are all excited about Corrie coming. We haven’t had a house guest since Judy visited in January, so it will be very nice indeed. Caleb got to choose his holiday present from Granny and Grandad with a promise from him that he won’t even open the box before Sunday. I think we can trust him!
We recovered from our organising, washing and shopping, enjoying a late afternoon lounging session. (Wine) Cheese, dips and crackers kept us company while Caleb played with some other kids he has met in the park, playing cricket until they couldn’t see the ball any longer. Even then, they moved under the lamp post to glean a little more light before having to give it away. He went to bed a very happy and tired kid!
