The Mountains Are Brimming – Day 184

It rained overnight but we woke to a beautiful morning. Corrie wasn’t keen on heading back into Sydney to see more sights. “The real Australian people are not in the cities, they are in the towns,” she stated.
We decided to head to the Blue Mountains for a picnic. It was only 1.5 hours away and such lovely weather. Corrie wasn’t concerned about driving for so long, I think her feet probably welcomed the thought of it if they were feeling anything like one after the excessive walking around Sydney yesterday.
Once we hit the road we discovered that we weren’t the only ones heading to the Blue Mountains on this public holiday. It seemed that all of Sydney was heading there too!
In 6 months of travelling, we hadn’t seen so many people all in the one place. The trip up to the Blue Mountains took an hour longer than it should have. We were in a queue of cars all the way up the mountain, crawling along like it was peak hour. In the National Park the limited parking was well and truly full and cars lined the residential streets. Ray is such a patient man at the best of times and he used his never-ending patience to secure us a parking spot, albeit more walking was required to get us to the touristy spots.
We walked to two lookouts and took in the view. Stunning. After our picnic lunch (“more food?” Corrie asked), we had to have an ice cream. Caleb and I were delighted to hear that Corrie likes to eat an ice cream every day. Since Ray doesn’t particularly like ice cream, Caleb and I knew we at least had a couple of days of ice cream eating to come! Absolute score!
Back at the van we indulged in some cheese and crackers again so that when it was time for our fish dinner, we were too full. We ate a meal of cinnamon buns and spent the evening talking and laughing ( in English and in Dutch).
