The Case Of The Missing Glow Worms-Day 190

Waking up and stretching in a REAL bed is so underestimated until you can’t do it for a while. Caleb crawled in too and we snuggled like we used to. Cute.

We weren’t in a hurry this morning, still content to lounge around, take a shower without thongs on and do some more sitting on the couch.
We left just before 10am and as we pulled out, I knew just where we were going. Back to Mount Panorama. This time Ray made me video the whole lap as we went around and he gave a running commentary. He’s such an easy man to keep happy. He left with a smile on his dial.

Before returning to Katoomba we rang the Information Centre there and enquired about the weather. It was the same as yesterday with zero visibility. We decided to add Katoomba to the growing list of places to visit “on our way back”.
We took the road back towards Sydney, stopping for coffee and a donut at Maccas. Not a common occurance for us so very nice when we do it.

We drove along as the rain slowly started. Ray saw a sign to a glow worm tunnel. We thought that sounded interesting so we drove 30km into the bush on a 4WD track. The bumping along soon lulled me into a Nanna Nap and I blamed the Sex And The City girls for keeping me up late last night. I woke when we reached the tunnel. Hmmm. Not sure about glow worms, we thought they were supposed to glow. We couldn’t spot anything inside the tunnel, we even went back through it and turned off all our lights and electrics. There were no signs or explanations. We turned around and drove back.

The long drive in the car with the rain made us hungry. It was the perfect day for a car picnic and so we stopped for Fish and Chips which we ate in the car before continuing our journey home.
By the time we reached the van, the rain was still falling and I was worried that the annexe would be too wet to pack away. We deliberated about staying another night as the weather looks promising tomorrow but we are all keen to leave. Sydney is too busy for us, quite polluted compared to the wide open spaces and copious amounts of fresh air that we are used to and everyone has their own busy agenda. Not surprisingly because this is a major city. We have found people helpful but that small town hospitality is certainly missing and a stiffness in its place that we think comes from having so many tourists and just not enough time to serve/deal with them all in the one place. I must reiterate though, we have a lot of places to compare as we travel along and everyone’s travel journey is different in what they enjoy and what they are looking for.

We packed up what we could and went to bed with our fingers crossed, hoping that the morning would reveal a dry sky.
