Goodbye Sydney, Tamworth Beckons-Day 191

Caleb announced that the sky was blue when he woke up and somehow made us agree to a game of tennis before we left the park. We had bought some cheap tennis racquets that we hadn’t tried out yet and Caleb was a lot keener than we were. We are not actually sure how this kid gets us to agree to things that we actually have no intention of doing, but he”s really good at it. We should take more notice so that we can turn the job around on him!
His need to play motivated him to assist in packing up a lot more than usual and a lot more efficiently. In no time we had everything packed up and were on our way to the old but still functional, tennis court.
We mucked around for a while and then, party pooper that I am, announced it was time to go. Caleb got stuck into his school work after the School Holiday Break. That was nice for all of us.
We headed for the coast travelling North and stopped for morning tea at a lookout. Since we were near Patonga Beach we decided to drop in and see what it was like. It is a favourite fishing spot for a lot of Grey Nomads and we had heard a lot about it from the travelling community. The foreshore has camping and we enquired about a sliver of grass to park on. At $50 for the night we took in the sights for free and then headed back over the mountain.

We thought we might like to visit Tamworth, home of the famous Country Music Festival, so we headed inland. We got caught up in a lovely phone call from home so started looking for a place to stop for the night. At 5:30pm we pulled into a FREE overnight rest area, found a level spot and set up for the night.

Everytime we stepped outside we could smell the strong aroma of cows. Upon further investigation, we realised what we thought was a splotch of oil behind where Ray had set up his chair, was actually cow diarrhoea. I instantly busied myself inside the van making dinner and left the outside stuff to the boys!
Tomorrow we will travel the remaining 220 km to Tamworth and have a look around there.
