We Missed The Turn Off For A Reason-Day 193

We woke up to the sounds of nothingness, a beautiful blue sky and an outlook over Chaffey Dam that was quite simply priceless.

Ray, as always thinking about my comfort, had restoked the fire from last night (smoking out nearby campers in their tent) and presented me with a chair in front of the fire. He assured me that with the morning sun warming my back and the fire warming my toes, I was set to enjoy my coffee. How thoughtful. X
Ray and Caleb soon went off to shower and returned with a story about a spider in Caleb’s shower so big that it’s presence created quite a disturbance. In the end, the only way Caleb would get in the shower was to drop his toiletry bag on it and then wash it down the plug hole. All other amenity users must have been relieved when the commotion was over, as I can imagine the verbal carry on coming from his cubicle. I was very thankful for the peace that I was enjoying by the campfire while I waited, oblivious to any carry on. I showered quickly in the caravan where there was absolutely no issues with spiders!

We packed up and headed back into Tamworth for a photo with the Big Golden Guitar. It commemorates the Country Music Festival and was built by the owners of the cafe to encourage people to stop there. Very clever marketing because it absolutely works.
We hit the road intending to head towards the coast and end up at Port Macquarie. We really needed a caravan park because my washing basket was overflowing and we don’t have a machine in our caravan. The colder weather had put us in longer pants and jumpers which couldn’t be wasted out by hand as we were prone to do with shorts and tank tops.
We are not sure if it was all of us singing Kenny Rogers songs on the way, but by the time I realised we had missed an important turn off, it was too late to go back without wasting more than an hour of travelling time. We stopped, consulted our map and decided that we must have missed the turn off for a reason and we would just have to wait and see what that reason was. We decided to head to Coffs Harbour instead. Home of the humble banana.

On the way we (Ray) negotiated some heady hills and corners and it made for tricky driving. I looked up a caravan park to stop at and there it was! The reason we were meant to be in Coffs Harbour! “The Clog Barn Holiday Park”. We didn’t even check the details, just put the address into the GPS and off we went. FYI “Siegersma “is a Dutch name, Ray being of Dutch heritage.

The park is a lifetime dream of the owners, a Dutch family who have also established a cafe (Big Oma’s Coffee House) next to the Barn where you can see clogs being made and buy Dutch souvenirs. This was the place for us and when we pulled in, even though we were exhausted, we were excited and occupied ourselves with washing and pegging out while we waited for tomorrow to come so that we could explore all that the caravan park and Coffs Harbour had to offer..
