An Impromptu Birthday Party -Day 195

Heading North today we definitely weren’t encouraged by the black clouds ahead of us. We were only travelling about 150km to Iluka, right on the coast.

The campground that Ray had found for us is at Woody Head and although pricey, had great reviews, especially in the fishing department. We arrived in time for lunch then Caleb found some friends to play with, Ray found the newspaper and I found a book. This area reminds us a lot of Wilson’s Promontory in South Gippsland,Victoria, complete with rain and a little wind. It was a relaxing afternoon. One of Caleb’s new friends was having a birthday party and he scored an invite. We loved the idea that these parents had come up with. They went camping for the school holidays and their son has his birthday during this time. Their son is allowed to invite any kids over to their caravan as long as they bring their own plastic cup. They play games on the grassed area (as they had been doing already, shared a store bought cake and ate snacks like potato chips and shapes in between running around in the fresh air. No need for presents, it started at 3pm and the kids just kept playing until their parents called them home. Smart parents those ones! (Come to think of it, Caleb’s birthday just happens to be in the January school holidays, I might snag that idea.)

Ray rang a caravan repair shop in Lismore, hoping to book the van in for a service. After 35,000km the bearings need checking again and we have a definite squeak under the van. Ray is certain that the van’s “nipples” need greasing. Well…ok. He was able to book us in for the day after tomorrow. We spent a quiet evening reading and dodging the rain on the lengthy walk to the amenities.
