It started raining in the early evening last night and continued throughout the night. It was pelting down on the caravan roof so hard that it woke me up and kept me awake from 2 am onwards. I couldn’t even find a rhythm in the noise that would lull me back to sleep. It was just a torrent of water continuously pounding on the roof.
In the morning, Caleb disappeared at 7am to find his friends and only returned to be fed and get dressed (reluctantly).
We packed up between the continual rain and the time spent chatting to our neighbours. They were new travellers doing the lap of Australia and Ray was able to impart a lot of useful information. We actually realised just how much we had learnt since being on the road when talking to them both. It was good to be able to share travelling and caravan tips and helpful ideas.
By the time we were ready to leave, Caleb had gone off again and was nowhere to be found. It took a good 15 minutes of walking around the campground, sticking our heads inside tents and caravans and asking campers if they had one more kid with them than they should have. Caleb was asked by his new friends if he could come back next year. He said he would think about it.
We drove in the rain (we weren’t very happy about this especially considering our home town of Melbourne is enjoying beautiful weather), to Lismore.
We had to “hide” in the van until the rain eased up enough to set up. It was such a miserable afternoon that we used the weather app on our phones to try and find somewhere in Queensland that we could head to that wasn’t raining. I think we are out of luck. We are considering returning to Western Australia where it is hot and sunny!
Caleb tipped out all of his toys and spent a few hours immersed in them. I got busy trying to fix the website as I’m still having trouble uploading photos. Ray made himself busy relaxing.
We decided it was too wet and late to venture out, had a hot dinner and continued to relax the night away. We played “it could be worse ” and decided that we were lucky indeed, even without the sun to enjoy.
