We find a hidden gem in Brisbane City that locals get to enjoy everyday! Another FREE tourist attraction to enjoy as you travel around Australia.
We thought we would take a day trip into Brisbane today for a look around. We weren’t sure what we would find because when we thought about it, we couldn’t think of any major tourist attractions in Brisbane City. We had been led to believe that the city (CBD) was the business end of town and where we would see the “suits”. We drove through the town and looked for a park to have our picnic lunch in.
We stumbled upon the Roma Street Parklands. We found a sunny bench and sat to watch the unfortunate (in comparison to us free as a bird travellers) working people walking through the park or sitting to eat their lunch.
Caleb spotted the amphitheatre and headed there to play around on the stage. He started talking to a young couple with a toddler and assisted them in keeping their child away from the edge of the stage.
Ray went and joined Caleb and they both put on a Star Wars play, complete with imaginary light sabers.

We still had some time left on the parking ticket so we took a look around.
The gardens were beautiful. So expertly manicured with nooks for sitting, water features and quaint rockeries. We walked around in awe, really glad that we had ended up here.

At one stage we noticed 3 bearded dragons basking themselves in the sun and being fed bits of sandwiches by lunching workers. Cute! As we continued walking through the park we kept spotting more of the lizards if all different sizes. Caleb counted them and when we left the total was 19. He kept shaking his head and exclaiming,”I just can’t believe it. 19 all sun baking at the same time.”
We passed the people he had made friends with earlier and as they greeted him by name, he game them a run down on the lizards and where to see them. Still shaking his head about seeing so many lizards, he waved them goodbye.

We returned through the city and Ray and I played spot the high heels. For so many people, we saw very few women wearing heels. Brisbane city was displaying a very casual dress code, probably due to the consistent summer weather that they enjoy here although I think that heels and a summery dress could be an option ladies!
