Fireworks and Ice cream = Heaven-Day 206

We had a fantastic start to our day with a phone call from Harry and Hannah at home.

I was close to jumping on a plane for home when Harry said, “I love you Aunty Netti. When are you coming home?” It was so good to speak to them and hear about their new house, school and kinder that they would be going to. We miss them so, so much.

Today was Ray’s fishing day so he set off to the beach with his bucket and rod to catch our dinner. Caleb and I did some schoolwork, washing and then we noticed that we had some new neighbours. They are a lovely Kiwi couple and we got talking for a bit. I realised I had “done a Ray” and been talking for a couple of hours when Caleb was begging for his lunch. It was 2:30pm.

Not long after, Ray returned empty handed. He reported that he didn’t even get a bite but thankfully not one of the other fisherman did either. I suppose there has to be something good about that.

The Surfers Paradise Festival happens to be on while we are here so we decided to go out for the night into town and watch the fireworks competition. It was quite a treat for us to be out at night and we really noticed the crowds. It is amazing how much the absence of these sorts of things is really noticeable when you are suddenly surrounded by them again. The fireworks were amazing with 3 different displays over an hour and a half. It was right on the beach and Caleb happily played in the sand while the fireworks went off.

We had a lovely night out, topped off with a Mc Donalds ice cream cone on the way home. Caleb was impressed as he was out past his bedtime and getting icecream too. He was in heaven!
(PS. Finally managed to get onto my Dad to wish him a Happy Birthday. Love you Dad!)
