We were out of food -again!
We were planning to continue our travelling adventure on Sunday so I needed to restock as much food and supplies as I could, with the knowledge that I could get everything that we liked and were used to, here within an arm’s length. It’s definitely a consideration for the travelling family. Thinking ahead allows a frustration free trip because “hangry” travellers are no fun, especially when you don’t really plan too much ahead like we try not to and we like to allow for spontaneous excursions too. We also had a few things to get for Ray’s birthday tomorrow.
We are all well versed on our shopping expeditions now. Each of us have very specific roles to play to get the job done quickly and efficiently. I am responsible for the list, knowing what we need and what we will likely be eating in the coming days. (We are quite routined in our eating habits and usually only vary our usual fare with local delicacies that we find in each town) Ray is responsible for pushing the trolley and the heavy lifting. He is required to be within close vicinity of the trolley at all times which is quite a task for him as he is quite seduced by the middle aisles in Aldi in particular. They always seem to lure him with “Special Buys” and things that he is sure we need to add to the trolley. If I can’t find both him and Caleb in Aldi, I just check out the middle aisles as I lug the trolley past them both, complaining loudly.
Caleb’s responsibility is to carry all of the items that I take off the shelves and put them in the trolley. He has gotten so much better at placing them in sections in the trolley so that eggs don’t get broken and all of the cold things are together. This has been a learning curve based upon his own experiences of eating a really bruised apple after he dropped a bottle of liquid detergent on it in the trolley. He is now so much better at organising. He does have a hard time keeping up with me, however, as I can be very fast at shopping in Aldi, and can be in and out with a full trolley in 37 minutes.
After our Aldi shopping, Caleb and I teamed up to keep Ray away from the stores where I was buying his gifts, and Ray was very good at playing along. Oscar nomination I think! Caleb and I made our birthday plans and wrapped everything when we got home and Ray sat outside enjoying the paper and the afternoon sun.
Caleb went to bed uber excited about the birthday plans and I knew he wasn’t going to sleep a minute past 6:30am. He is such an easy kid to please, as long as you don’t like sleeping in!
