Such beautiful sunny weather here in Rockhampton made us happy to go out and about and explore the area.
We drove 30 odd kms to Yeppoon which is a quaint seaside town. A lovely little bay just across from Great Keppel island and which we could see in the distance from the beach. There were plenty of people around, being a Saturday, and we bought some lunch and sat to eat it on the foreshore. It was lovely just sitting and looking over the water. We wondered what people were doing on Great Keppel island and could understand why people left the Southern States at this time of year to enjoy a holiday in these areas. We travelled further along the coast to Emu Park, a favourite local spot for fishermen. It was a quiet afternoon there with people milling about on the beach and I could see the attraction for retirees to uproot their lives and spend their good years living the good life here. 30km from a major town with all the necessary services and yet here we were in a quaint seaside town. No wonder there were lots of billboards with happy pictures of greying couples on them. Apparently the Mid Queendland coast now has the highest number of retirees in Australia.
We returned to the van, Caleb disappeared to the Recreation room and we checked out some possible spots to stay after here.
We spoke to Aaron who was out at a family birthday dinner celebrating his 21st. 21! I just cant believe it. It hurts that we are not there too, but Aaron is taking it in his stride, as he does. We toyed with the idea of staying another day here, it’s just so tropical, but decided against it. We will leave tomorrow.
