Pricey Port Douglas-Day 270

Sunday morning and the well known Port Douglas Markets were calling.

We were up super early (7am) and on our way very quickly. Linda reported that her mum and dad were indeed waiting up for her, something was mentioned about lights being left on so she could see her way which were keeping them awake. Hmmm…
Uncle Tony found us strategic car parks which would allow us to wander one side of the Main Street, then the market, then the other side of the street on the way back. Very organised! The markets are very well known as a showcase of local artists work. There was a wide range of jewellery, pottery, handsewn clothes and the usual homemade jams and chutneys. I was able to replenish my supply of mango chutney which I think I am quite addicted to! I lather it on everything especially chicken and could literally eat it straight from the jar.
We saw some lovely things with lovely price tags too so we bought very little.
We went for coffee at the Marina at Skases Bar, made famous by Christopher Skase, then to Mockas Pies for lunch. Mockas Pies had been a Port Douglas institution for over 30 years and there are crowds lining up for their pies everyday.
After finishing the wandering up the other side of the road, looking in all the shops, we headed back to Cairns.
On the way Caleb spotted an interesting rock sculpture so we pulled over to take a closer look. We weren’t sure if it was a memorial (it seemed kind of solemn) or if tourists had entertained themselves piling up rocks. Whichever it was, it was a great photo opportunity.
Back in time for wine o’clock (gee these oldies can drink) and dinner.
