Hanging With The Grey Nomads-Day 271

Washing day!

It was sunny and warm so it seemed a good day to strip the beds and air everything out.
Caleb was begging for a day without having to go out in the car. He is such a homebody. Happy to play with his lego for hours on end inventing new vehicles and adventures in his head. In other words, just being a kid.
We got stuck into his schoolwork and did a bit extra today because we missed out yesterday. Caleb was happy to keep going with a couple of breaks in between and before we knew it, lunchtime had arrived. The afternoon flew by as we relaxed reading, talking and chatting with our neighbours. Caleb squeezed Ray some fresh Orange Juice and presented it to him proudly.
At 5 o’clock we headed to the pool area and “bagged” our seats for the weekly Chinese meal put on by the park owners. $10 scores you a plate of rice with chicken, pork or beef and vegetables. It’s BYO drinks and plates. There were 143 diners there for dinner and we were also treated to a fire twirling act along with some whip cracking. Three sisters and their brother are travelling around Australia performing their talents to pay their way. They were very good and added a party atmosphere to the evening.

It’s been quite an eye opener, being part of the “Grey Nomad” lifestyle and being embraced by them in this caravan park. They have their set routines and the owners of this caravan park certainly put on some events each week to encourage them to stay. They have creted their own little seasonal community that keeps coming back to escape the Southern Winter and I assume it is happening all over the country. We have found that our interaction with these retirees has been extraordinary and they have been willing to sit and chat and share their knowledge and experiences of travelling and life in general with us.
We continued the talking (and beverages) back at our caravan with cousin Linda and managed to get her back to Aunty Barbara’s van before her 11:30pm curfew. Phew!
