Life Lessons at the Cascade Falls-Day 273

9 months ago today we became nomads, gypsies, we elected to be “homeless” people and took up residence in our caravan for the adventure of our lives.

Each day we are thankful for the opportunity and even when we are hanging around, just doing mundane things, its still part of the adventure. We have been in Cairns for a week already and have another week to go. We have stopped for this extended period of time because of the fact that there is family here and also because it is school holidays which makes travelling just a little bit more difficult, accommodation wise.
I can feel the need to keep moving and to do some more exploring, creeping up on me. Even though we are nearing the end of our trip, there is still plenty to see and do and I don’t want to get too bogged down in larger cities when the “real” Australia is still waiting.
Today we visited the Cascade Falls near Cairns. We have come across a few falls around Australia with this same name, the most beautiful being in Kakadu National Park, Northern Territory.
Ray and Caleb went exploring through the bush, making their own track towards the waterfall. I was waiting at the top, not wanting to come across the stinging tree that there were warning signs up about.

Unfortunately, Caleb’s explanation yelled to me up the hill that they were walking to the waterfall, failed to reach me so I sat and sat and sat. Just as I had decided to go back to the car and wait, they both came jogging down the path. They had already been to the top of the waterfall, another 1.2kms further on, expecting me to be there to meet them. Well, I wasn’t! I was waiting patiently at the top of the track that they disappeared down.
Indignantly, I made them both escort me back the way they had come to the top of the waterfall. Lesson for today: it’s important that your communication is clear otherwise you can end up doing a lot more walking than you thought!
