Caleb took himself off to the showers this morning and Ray found him later with a snake wrapped around his neck! He had found the owner of the campsite, a snake handler, and was helping him out. That boy has no fear when it comes to reptiles but I do, so Ray took some photos to show me from my safe spot inside the van.
We headed off determined to make it to Croydon. Yep, Croydon. Queensland that is! (Not Croydon, the next suburb to our home town in Melbourne, Victoria.) The trip was monotonous and as much as I tried to find some interesting things to notice, apart from smelly road kill, there wasn’t much.
We did marvel at the state of Queensland roads though. For lengths they are wide and plentiful giving caravan pullers (heaps of us up here) enough room to travel safety. Then suddenly the road changes, becomes wide enough for one vehicle only and necessitates traffic from both directions slowing down to a crawl and driving in the stones. Dangerous and annoying as everything inside the van jumps around and threatens to fall out of cupboards when they are opened later. I knew I would be busy making readjustments when we eventually stopped.
The weather became warm and sunny and by lunchtime it was decidedly hot. Ray took off his top which gave Caleb the perfect target for his cold drink of water. I could see that it was about to happen and gladly took photos from inside the caravan. These boys are a constant form of entertainment for me!
By the time we arrived in Croydon we were all relieved. We set up, Caleb swam in the pool and at 5pm, Ray made his way to the BBQ area for “Beer and Bullshit” hour. He gathered some important information about the remainder of our trip to the Gulf.
