Day 300! 300 days living on the road, roughing it with the best of them. Going without, making do, and giving up all the niceties of life to experience a whole other world out there. This was cause for celebration!
We had decided to stay today in Mount Isa for another day. I just can’t bear the thought of leaving our ensuite behind – just yet.
In order to celebrate, we headed straight for the Family Fun Park to spend an hour or so exploring the playground there. We were treated to quite a few different pieces of equipment that we haven’t seen in any other playground, and we’ve seen a huge amount!
We couldn’t believe that we were the only ones there so we had the whole place to ourselves. This gave Ray and I free reign to play on the equipment with Caleb without upsetting little kids by taking their spots. We had a huge amount of fun. After a game of tiggy, during which I built up so much static electricity that when I tagged someone it hurt, we were exhausted.
We headed to the city lookout to view Mount Isa from the top. The signpost there pointed in all directions and we saw that we were closer to Adelaide than Melbourne. We would have thought otherwise. We will have to check our maps to be sure because we are assuming that the signpost is correct. We loved the look of it though!
Ray and Caleb had some important training to do in preparation for the Masters Games in August. (Ray also received a phone call from the Australian Masters asking him to compete in discus in Geelong in October. A personal invitation – impressive!)
So, we returned to the van for lunch after which, they took off to train and I got stuck into my ecourse. I’m learning a lot but am struggling with the Internet dropping out consistently. It’s infuriating!
The boys came back with tales of huge distances being thrown with the discus and a video to prove it. I need a McDonalds with free wi-fi to upload it.
Our 300th day! I never imagined the day would come so quickly. We leave here tomorrow, on the next leg of our journey. Roll on day 301 and beyond!
