We knew we would be settling down to some relaxing days when we returned to Cairns and Caleb was looking forward to it the most.
Since we started this trip, he has made regular complaints about the amount of sightseeing we do, begging to have more time just hanging around the van and caravan park. He keeps quoting, ” this is a holiday”. It’s great that his wishes are finally being granted, but it does not create great blogging substance, so my apologies for that.
Our site in the park is on the level above Aunty Barbara, Uncle Tony and their friends who are all in the row immediately below us. This means we overlook their vans. It also means that even though we are right behind them we have to walk quite a way around to get down to them. There is a steep bank separating our level from theirs.
Ray was determined to find an easier way to join them for afternoon tea than trek halfway around the park with the chairs and coffee. When I saw him pull out his length of rope and look around for something to tie it to, I picked up the coffee mugs and started walking, confident that I would arrive before he had the chairs lowered down the steep bank separating them and us.
I was right. Ray fiddled around with the rope lowering the already beaten up chairs through the dirt and gravel where Aunty Barbara was untying them. I’m not sure how much effort it saved him because he still had to walk himself around to join us for coffee.
As Ray arrived, I heard him say that he is not leaving the park until he has scaled the bank at least once. I quite believe him!
We enjoyed afternoon tea with scones, jam and cream and a homemade cake. These ladies (and men) know how to bake and it’s amazing what they can create in their caravans.
Ray and Caleb joined the trivia competition at the pool after tea while I remained behind and continued to work through my course content.
A nice relaxing day.
