Ahhh…my little brother’s birthday today. Happy 39th Chris! He tells me he doesn’t read our blog because of his immense jealousy of us. So, I’m sure he won’t mind, (because he won’t know), that I’ve mentioned his age and the fact that he may be younger than me, but he definitely has more grey hair!
We took a trip into the doctor this morning as Caleb’s throat was still sore and he was having trouble swallowing.
The doctor took a look said it was a little red but nothing extreme, listened to the other issues with his long suffered tummy aches and ordered a round of blood tests which we will have to return for on Monday.
We continued with the Nurofen and throat spray and plenty of sipped water for the remainder of the day. This combined with plenty of sympathy seemed to do the trick.
The local primary school was holding its Country Fair (Fete) so we headed there after lunch. It offered the usual mix of stalls and events and a huge amount of people. It started at 3pm and finished at 7:45pm after the fireworks (yes, fireworks). We thought it may take Caleb’s mind off his ailments and provide a diversion for the evening.
There was the biggest cake stall we have ever seen offering absolutely everything for sale including homemade sweets, cake pops, and bar cakes and slices. We pondered on the reasons why there were literally hundreds of cakes and came to the conclusion that the afternoon time slot gave parents the opportunity to bake and take it with them to the fete.
Something else we noticed was the area roped off titled the “Bar”. There was a sign stating that persons over the age of 18 were permitted in the space where they were serving alcohol in cans. We saw spirits and beer. I nearly fell over! Never in Melbourne!
Caleb had a turn on the giant slide and a few other side show stalls. Ray had a turn at Grocery Grab, managing to throw the rings over a bottle of Cold Power liquid and a can of Coke which we got to keep. Not bad for $2, especially since detergent was on this week’s spelling list.
We spent a couple of hours wandering around and enjoying the displays. Caleb was so excited to pet a baby crocodile and python while I had some Emmett Technique therapy on my sore back. This technique was pretty amazing. I walked away with a much relieved neck also. All for a donation.
We returned to the van, then headed back after dark for the fireworks display. It was pretty impressive for a school fete.
Caleb’s throat was becoming an issue so we put him to bed early, dosed up with Nurofen and throat spray again. Poor kid!
