We discussed all the touristy things we could do and decided to start with a trip to Kuranda. This is a popular hinterland market town which is only about 15km from Holloway Beach.
We spent a leisurely hour or so wandering through the market stalls and another hour negotiating our way through the numerous tour groups who had suddenly arrived by bus.
We bought some lunch and headed to the park to eat, the newly arrived ‘Melbournites’ searching for a patch of sun to sit in and thaw out from the long, never ending Winter they are currently experiencing.
Decisions aren’t made quickly and easily when there are 8 people to consider so while we considered the possibility of fishing and snorkeling charters, Ray suggested that we head for a drink at Palm Cove.
Palm cove was windy but we braved a walk along the beach while Ryder had his afternoon nap in the pram. Stopping for a drink on the way back was agreed by everyone and we enjoyed a local beer together. (Well, everyone else did. I kept the pram rolling to encourage extra sleep time so Ryder and I had our first ‘Oma and I’ time alone. It was absolutely priceless, even if only one of us was conscious!)
