I don’t think it gets much better than this, or perhaps we are just in “appreciate every last minute before it all comes to a crashing halt” mode?
We have spent 2 glorious days, blue sky beaming at us, the little waves tumbling onto the soft warm sand. It is everything families sign up for when deciding on a beach holiday.
We have walked along the foreshore, eaten icecream and explored the little shops. Great family time. Ray has fished while I stayed at the park with Caleb, giving him the opportunity to take advantage of the influx of weekenders. There are so many kids around for him to play with, we’ve hardly seen him.
It’s great for him to mix with a variety of kids, there are only so many conversations about Mutant Ninja Turtles and Minecraft that we can tolerate. Ray observed him being “pushed around” (verbally) by a girl at the jumping pillow today. Caleb had assumed control of the game they were playing and she came along and challenged his position. He needs this interaction and we welcome it.
Caleb and I went to the pool where he swam for a while. He made friends with a little boy and they both climbed out of the pool, pulled up sun lounges and commenced an in depth conversation. Before long they had arranged to play tennis together and went off happily swinging their racquets.
Every new friend Caleb makes is called “my friend”. As much as we encourage him to ask them their names, we can hardly blame him for not bothering. He meets so many, some of which disappear after a few hours, to continue on their journeys.
Ray came back from fishing, reporting on a 3 fish bounty! He kept two, which are in the fridge as a nice little entree for him tomorrow. I know he will enjoy it, very much. Apparently they taste better after a short swing on the end of a fishing line.
