Ray and I wanted to spend our last day in Lake Clifton, Western Australia at the beach. Caleb and Az didn’t, and it seemed like too much effort convincing them otherwise. We decided to hang around the van considering we were soon heading down South and the beaches would be plentiful.
The morning soon passed quickly and I got 12 pages into my new book. Across the way from where we are camped a family had set up their tent for the weekend. They are from Perth and quite adventurous people having travelled across America with two small children and they planned to travel Australia in the future, keeping themselves sated for the time being with camping weekends away. We got talking to them on Friday night until the mozzies drove us inside. Today they wandered over to say goodbye before they took off and two hours later they left. We couldn’t believe how quickly the time had passed. We got some great tips for places to see and stay when we are down South. We felt guilty after they had gone for keeping them from their lunch. Such lovely people! One of the great pleasures about travelling in a caravan or other road vehicle is the amazing variety of people you will meet. Not having an agenda to keep to, or being able to have some flexibility with it will enable you to stop and chat for a while, even hours and get to meet some really sensational people from all over the world. This is what provides the real colour to your trip, along with the scenery. It’s the characters you meet and the stories they have to tell. Make time for them.
All too soon it was time to pack up. The annexe came down a lot easier than it went up and before long everything inside and outside the van was back in its spot. We have been here for 3 weeks. That is the longest we have been in one spot since leaving Melbourne. I took my 87 step journey to the toilets in the dark for the last time. Tomorrow we head off.
